Psalm 27:14
Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Application:
Waiting on the Lord might appear passive, but it actually centers on patient, confident trust in God(1)—an active posture rather than mere inaction. This engagement involves confronting life’s challenges within God’s revealed will while hoping for His deliverance (2).
Waiting manifests through three primary expressions: trusting in God, seeking His presence, and praying with expectation (1). David exemplified this trust by viewing the Lord as his light, salvation, and stronghold—a confidence so deep that even when enemies advanced or armies besieged him, his heart remained unafraid (1). His longing to dwell in God’s house and worship in His temple demonstrated how seeking God’s presence becomes a concrete expression of waiting (1).
The psalm itself models this progression. After receiving encouragement from God, David then extends that same encouragement to others, urging them to wait for the Lord and be strong (2). Waiting on the Lord involves confident expectation of positive results, grounded in knowledge of and trust in God’s character (1). This practice renews strength (1), and establishes faith while bringing serenity and stability—outcomes that become a testimony to others who witness such trust and subsequently place their own confidence in God (1).
