Reverence and Trust

Psalm 25:14-15
The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him,
And He will show them His covenant.
My eyes are ever toward the Lord,
For He shall pluck my feet out of the net.

Application:

Who is the person who fears the Lord? (25:12). To fear God means taking Him seriously, an attitude shown through obedience. Such a person leads a good, Spirit-filled life with blessings that bring internal and external prosperity (25:13). God rewards those who fear Him with inside information—secret counsel tailored to the individual and their personal experience of His covenant (25:14). Therefore, David kept his eyes on the Lord, confident that He would pull his feet from the net—delivering him from his enemies (25:15).*

Because of God’s character—his goodness and integrity—sinners can learn the right way from him (25:8). They should humble themselves and accept his guidance (25:9), rather than assuming they can manage alone. The Lord’s ways remain good and truthful, and those within his covenant encounter them (25:10). Once more, David asks God to forgive his iniquities (25:11), which might block the flow of covenant blessings.*

Fearing the Lord does not imply being afraid of Him unless we oppose His sovereign rule (Matthew 10:28). It means standing in reverence, honoring and respecting His ways, which exceed ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). This involves placing full trust in Him rather than relying on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).^
