Psalm 95:6-7
Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God,
And we are the people of His pasture,
And the sheep of His hand…
Application:
The psalmist calls God’s people to demonstrate their submission to him by bowing before him (95:6), a posture symbolizing the recognition of his sovereignty. As sheep depend on their shepherd to protect and provide for them, so we, as the people of [God’s] pasture, look to him for every good thing we need (95:7a).*
The imagery here is powerful; it suggests surrender and reverence that resonate deeply with worship. When we come before the Lord, we are not just fulfilling a ritual, but engaging in a heartfelt connection with the creator of the universe.
This passage reminds us that God is not only our creator but also our shepherd. The phrase “we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand” beautifully encapsulates our relationship with the Lord.
