The Household of God

Ephesians 2:19 
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 

Application: 

Ephesians 2:18–19: Through Christ we have unity. Not uniformity. We’re not all the same. Unity is uniqueness working toward a common goal. This is possible because all Christians have access to the Father in one Spirit (2:18). Christian unity, then, is a spiritual issue. Where the Spirit is working, there is oneness. If there is disharmony and division for illegitimate criteria, the Spirit is not at work. Believers are no longer foreigners and strangers but have been made fellow citizens and members of God’s household (2:19). The church is a family.*

This transformative verse of Scripture illustrates the profound identity shift that occurs when one accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Individuals who once felt like outsiders are now welcomed into a family and become fellow citizens with other believers. This highlights Christianity’s inclusivity, promoting the idea that anyone can find a place within God’s community. Furthermore, being part of the ‘household of God’ signifies more than mere membership. It represents the intimate relationship between believers and God. This familial bond nurtures spiritual growth and fosters belonging among members. Each individual, regardless of their past, is invited to join this divine family, united under the same purpose and love.

Reflecting on Ephesians 2:19 helps believers appreciate their place in the faith community. As undeserving as we might feel, the promise of belonging in God’s household reassures us that we are valued, connected, and fundamentally part of something much bigger than ourselves.
