Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Application:
Paul concludes this prayer by pointing to the God who can do more than we ask or imagine. What does Scripture say God can do? He can rescue from a fiery furnace (see Dan 3:17). He can deliver from lions’ mouths (see Dan 6:20–22). He can give sight to the blind (see Matt 9:28–30). He can keep you from stumbling (see Jude 24). He can save completely (see Heb 7:25). He can make every grace overflow to you (see 2 Cor 9:8). He can do more than all we ask or think.*
God can work exceedingly and abundantly beyond our wildest dreams, but it is according to the power that works in us. God’s power operates in accordance with a believer’s spiritual strength, intimacy, and capacity—everything for which Paul prays for an increase.*
A fire hydrant is small, but it can gush water with volume and force disproportionate to its size. That’s because the water isn’t inside the hydrant. The hydrant is connected to a reservoir that is always full. When the church is in sync with Jesus Christ, it is connected to a reservoir that is always overflowing. When God’s people have a strong internal connection to Him, they will overflow with the power of God in and through their lives, both individually and collectively (see John 7:38-39).*
These blessings and this power working in us are received if and when we walk in obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ and do what He says (Luke 6:46). When we trust Him and Him alone for salvation, and not what we do, not our worth, but His!
