Matthew 24:35
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
Application:
Following this revelation of the future to his disciples, Jesus explained the principles of the tribulation and his second coming. When a fig tree … sprouts leaves, any Israelite knows that summer is near (24:32). It’s an obvious sign that’s easy to understand.
Similarly, when those alive during the great tribulation see the signs unfolding (24:29–30), they can be sure that the Messiah is returning soon (24:33). These are the people Jesus referred to as this generation (24:34). They will witness everything unfold exactly as Jesus predicted. Although heaven and earth will pass away, Jesus’ words will never fade (24:35).
In Psalm 119:89–96, God’s word is forever and firmly established in heaven (119:89). It will never change and remains relevant to all people across every culture and throughout history. The foundation of the world’s faithfulness is God’s own faithfulness; His creation and judgments are steadfast (119:90–91). The psalmist knows he finds security through God’s precepts, so he resolves never to forget them (119:93).
