Be Still and Know

Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!

Application:

“Be still.” The term raphah means “to release” or “let go” (Psalm 37:8; Job 27:6). God commands the forces of chaos (Ps 46:2-3) and the nations (v. 6) to cease their raging and acknowledge Him as God (Psalm 2:10-12).^

The psalmist encourages and comforts God’s people with the knowledge that He would fight their battles and defend them against their enemies (46:8-9). They do not need to worry or strive when faced with challenges or difficulties. The same holds true for us. Remember that the Lord is with His people. He is our stronghold—our security and strength (46:11).*

When Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit will be with us in times of trouble (Psalm 91). God commands us to do natural things (such as praying, fasting, trusting Him, obeying Him, forgiving, and giving), and He will take care of the supernatural part (Philippians 4:6-7). All we have to do after we have done our part is to “Be Still” and recognize that He is God, El Shaddai, the Almighty God.
