Manage Anger

James 1:19
So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

Application:

If you are saved and sanctified by the Word of God, how should you approach it? Be quick to listen to God’s thoughts on a matter, slow to speak your point of view, and slow to anger (1:19) if you do not like what God has to say compared to your human perspective.*

God’s Word will confront you, but getting angry with Him will not achieve His righteous plan for your life (1:20). Instead, put aside moral filth and evil by confessing and repenting of your sin, and humbly receive the implanted word. After all, God has implanted in you a new nature. You have everything you need for spiritual growth. However, you must receive it, humbly placing yourself under its authority so that it can save you (1:21)—that is, deliver and transform you.*

Be angry and do not sin (Ephesians 4:26). People will upset one another within the community of faith. But Paul urges us to manage our anger, confront it daily, and avoid giving the devil a chance to escalate it into something worse. Anger becomes sinful when it targets individuals and seeks revenge instead of addressing the issue.*

Anger and unforgiveness create a barrier between us (horizontal relationships) and God (vertical relationships). This is why the Word of God seeks to address anger and unforgiveness, so that the devil does not create chaos among us. Jesus instructs us to resolve our grievances with one another before coming to worship (Matthew 5:23-24).
