Romans 13:8
Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

Application:

All of our debts should be repaid. Well, all except one: the debt that can never be fully settled is our obligation to love one another (13:8). Biblical love, as Paul demonstrated in chapter 12, is the choice to compassionately and righteously seek the benefit and well-being of others.*

We owe that to others endlessly, as that kind of love serves as the foundation for all of God’s horizontal commandments: Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal; do not covet (13:9). This is why Paul, once more echoing Jesus, refers to the command to love your neighbor as yourself as the fulfillment of the law (13:9–10).*

Jesus expressed that “all the Law and the Prophets depend” on two commands: (1) Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind; (2) love your neighbor as yourself (Matt 22:37–40).*

Loving the unlovable is not something that comes naturally. When we make Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, obey and walk in His Word, the Holy Spirit empowers us to love others. Seeing people through God’s eyes and loving the unlovable are evidence of the Holy Spirit’s manifestation in our lives.
