1 Peter 1:15-16
but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
Application:
God’s perfect holiness lies at the heart of his other attributes. Everything about him is in a class by itself. He calls his people to pursue holiness by seeking to please him in every dimension of their lives.
Those who come to God through Jesus address him as Father and are to conduct themselves in reverence for God by taking him seriously. God expects his kingdom kids to look like him. Since he is holy, we are to be holy. Non-Christians should view you as a little strange because you’re seeking to conform to God’s standards rather than the world’s.
A mirror verse is found in Leviticus 11:44-45. I am the Lord your God, so you must consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy. To make sure they did not miss the point, he repeated himself: You must be holy because I am holy (11:45).
Holiness remains a requirement for God’s people today. Of course, we cannot make ourselves holy. Sinners are made acceptable to God only through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ when they place their faith in him. Yet after coming to saving faith in Christ, we are called to live lives that please him. The New Testament, in fact, is filled with commands to walk in holiness and to honor the Lord with lives dedicated to his service (see Rom 12:1; 1 Thess 4:7; 2 Pet 3:11). God is holy, and he calls his people to be like him.
