Comfort Amid Anxiety

Psalm 94:18-19
If I say, “My foot slips,”
Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.
In the multitude of my anxieties within me,
Your comforts delight my soul.

Application:

In Psalm 94:16–19, God was the psalmist’s only comfort, for God alone could stand on his behalf against evildoers (94:16). Therefore, when cares overwhelmed him to the point that he was ready to throw in the towel, he put his full trust in God, whose comfort brought him joy (94:18–19). When worry dominates you, strengthen your confidence in God so he can relieve the pressure and anxiety you’re experiencing.*

As we navigate the challenges of anxiety, we can find solace in the comforting nature of God (2 Corinthians 1:3-5). The psalmist writes that amid the multitude of anxieties, “Your comforts delight my soul.” This declaration shows that divine comfort can lift our spirits and bring peace even in turbulent times. When fear and worry threaten to consume us, we must embrace God’s presence. Acknowledging our vulnerabilities—such as when we feel our foot might slip—is the first step toward relying on His mercy. The promise that His mercy will hold us up encourages us to surrender our worries and trust in a higher purpose.

The reflections from Psalm 94:18-19 remind us that while life’s journey can often be filled with anxiety, we have the assurance of God’s comfort and unwavering support (see Isaiah 41:10). When we feel overwhelmed, we can take comfort in being upheld by His mercy, which gently guides us through the storm. As Paul wrote to the Philippians, make your requests known to God, and His peace will guard your heart in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7).
