God of All Comfort

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Comfort in Suffering
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Application:

Paul praises God, who comforts us during our affliction (1:3–4). The following verses clearly demonstrate that Paul was experiencing pain. He discusses affliction (1:4, 6, 8), suffering (1:5–7), despair (1:8), and death (1:9–10). Therefore, Paul reaffirmed Jesus’s promise to his disciples: “You will have tribulation in this world” (John 16:33).

If anyone claims you can avoid suffering from health issues, mental distress, relationship problems, or financial hardships—assuming you have enough faith—they’re not being truthful. Paul was a visible and outspoken follower of Christ who was a leader among Christians in terms of faithfulness. He endured great suffering—not because of his faith but because of his trust in and obedience to Christ.

Paul’s suffering, like ours, is closely connected to God’s purpose of using us to minister to others. God is the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles (1:3–4). We should not let our suffering overshadow the endless comfort God provides in every situation.

Our trials and tribulations don’t take God by surprise. Nothing occurs to you that hasn’t first gone through His hands. Remember that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him”(Rom 8:28).
