Psalm 119:160
The entirety of Your word is truth,
And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

Application: 

This verse declares that God’s word in its entirety constitutes truth, and that his righteous judgments remain permanent. The affirmation operates on two levels: both the individual components of God’s communication and their collective coherence embody reliability.

The Hebrew term for truth here encompasses both factual accuracy (truth opposed to falsehood) and ethical faithfulness (reliability in conduct),¹ creating a multivalent claim about Scripture’s character. When combined, God’s words demonstrate themselves to be trustworthy and dependable, containing no deception or inconsistency.¹ Beyond individual reliability, the verse suggests an internal harmony—God’s words do not contradict one another.¹

The passage reflects God’s own nature: just as he embodies truthfulness and faithfulness, his word mirrors these divine attributes.² This trustworthiness renders Scripture capable of providing everything believers require to construct a life aligned with God’s purposes.² Even amid adversity, God’s people maintain confidence in his deliverance, grounded in their commitment to his truthful, righteous, and eternal word.³

The verse’s second clause—affirming the permanence of God’s righteous judgments—reinforces that this truth is not temporary or subject to revision. This comprehensive understanding of Scripture as truth undergirds the Reformed doctrine of sufficiency, which asserts that Scripture contains God’s will completely and teaches everything necessary for salvation.² In contrast to partial human knowledge, Scripture provides a stable, infallible standard that believers can consistently return to when surrounding circumstances seem unclear or untrustworthy.²
