Psalm 103:17-18
But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children’s children,
To such as keep His covenant,
And to those who remember His commandments to do them.
Application:
David emphasizes the enduring benefits of God’s loyal love for His people by highlighting the frailty and transience of human life. As children of Adam, we are made of … dust (103:14; see Gen 2:7).*
The days of our lives are like those of a flower that blooms for a moment and then vanishes (103:15–16). By contrast, the Lord’s faithful love endures from eternity to eternity for those who fear him—those who remember to observe his precepts (103:17–18).*
David concludes in Psalm 103:10-22 by acknowledging God as the sovereign King who rules over all and invites all creation—heaven and earth—to bless Him (103:19–20). This reflection on God’s faithfulness to His people causes David to erupt in praise like a volcano. May the same be true for all believers. Let us take God seriously and declare His praises.*
Do you seek closeness with God? Begin praising Him and consistently give thanks to Him, no matter the circumstances. God dwells in the praises of His people, and in His presence is the fullness of joy (Psalm 22:3, Psalm 16:11).
Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, emphasized that we should love our God with all that is within us:
Mark 12:30-31
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
Like David, we should bless the Lord in the way we live our lives, be grateful for His mercy, and praise His Holy name!
