Deuteronomy 7:9
“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
Application:
Different from every so-called god of the nations (Deuteronomy 4:19), the LORD (Yahweh) is the only true God (El Elyon, Genesis 14:18–20). He is faithful both to bless those who love and obey Him and to judge those who hate and disobey Him (7:9–10). Therefore, the only wise choice for Israel was to follow the commands and ordinances of God that Moses conveyed to them (7:11). This principle remains relevant today.
Israel was chosen by God for His service, selected from among the nations to fulfill important purposes of His sovereignty, including the birth of the Messiah (Christ). Their selection for this high calling was not based on their numbers or remarkable merits, as they often engaged in perverse and unworthy conduct. God could not gain any benefit from their efforts; however, this was part of the covenant or promise made with their faithful ancestors to demonstrate His glory by pouring out the most valuable blessings on all people.
God remains faithful today, calling both Jews and Gentiles to share in the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior (1 Corinthians 1:9). He ensures that everything works together for those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
