Jesus Christ, Our Living Hope

1 Peter 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Application:

Peter enters into praise for the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who saved us because of his great mercy, not because of our own worthiness. He describes this salvation as a new birth into a living hope, which is a positive expectation about the future. When you were born the first time, it was into a dead hope. You were born to die. But, through the resurrection of Jesus, there’s a better future on the horizon. Jesus’s resurrection guarantees our own (see 1 Cor 15). We have been “born again” (John 3:1–8).*

“Begotten again (Born-again)” Refers to the believer’s new life that is only possible because of the death and resurrection of Christ. First Peter’s use of new-birth language to describe salvation reflects Jesus’ teaching (1 Pet 1:23; 2:2; see John 3:3, 7). This rebirth is accomplished by Jesus’ resurrection from the dead and serves as the Christian reason for hope: certainty of future salvation. Once dead in their sins, Christians now live with assured hope of their own resurrection.^

Peter says Christians have an inheritance (which includes our rewards for faithfulness and fidelity to the King and his kingdom) that is imperishable. Have you ever made a hotel reservation only to discover that the hotel had no record of it when you showed up? That won’t happen with this reservation because it is kept in heaven. No one can take it, lose it, or hack it out of God’s heavenly computer.*

Not only is your inheritance in safekeeping, but you are eternally secure. You are being guarded by God’s power for the salvation that is to come. If you are truly born again, you’re not going anywhere—not because of your power to hold on to God, but because God has an omnipotent grip on you (see John 10:27–29). And He won’t let go.*

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
