Falling Short

Romans 3:23-24
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Application:

When Paul states that all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory, he means all—no exceptions. When the standard is God’s glory and righteousness, it makes no difference if we miss by an inch or a mile.*

If two men are running to catch a plane, and one man is an hour late while the other is one minute late, who is in a worse situation? After all, they both missed the flight! It doesn’t matter if you are “better” than your neighbor; the neighbor is not the standard. God is the standard, and we all fall short.*

Everyone has sinned, but not everyone is justified. Only those who believe in Jesus Christ and receive Him by faith are justified (Romans 3:26, John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8).

[Because of the fall] We were under the rule of the devil, but Jesus Christ offered redemption. In the ancient world, a slave could be redeemed if a price was paid for his freedom. We were slaves to sin and Satan, but through his atoning death, [by His shed blood], Christ purchased us from the slave block, granting us forgiveness of sins and transferring us into his glorious kingdom.*

When we trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and obey Him (Believe in Him), we are free (John 8:34-36).
