John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
Application:
Jesus proclaimed the second of his seven “I am” metaphors (see also 6:48; 10:7, 11; 11:25; 14:6; 15:1):
I am the light of the world. Those who follow him (i.e., his true disciples) will never walk in darkness (8:12).
In response to this call to discipleship, the Pharisees accused him of merely bragging about himself; therefore, his testimony [was] not valid (8:13). Conversely, Jesus told them, My testimony is true because I know where I came from (heaven) and where I’m going (heaven) (8:14). The divine Son of God cannot give false testimony, nor can he render false judgment (8:16). The Pharisees, however, lacked spiritual insight, judging Jesus according to human standards (8:15).
Jesus was teaching in the Temple (8:1). The “Golden Lampstand (Exodus 25:31-39)” was probably visible to all there, shining its light in the darkness. This golden lampstand, along with all the furniture in the tabernacle, pointed to Jesus Christ, the Light of the World. In John 1:4-5, we read that Jesus is our Life and our Light. He came to shine in the darkness, and the darkness could not overcome Him.*

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
