Psalm 100:4-5
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.
Application:
The people in the psalmist’s time were commanded to enter his gates and courts. Although we don’t go to a temple today, we are similarly instructed to enter into his presence. What is the key to entry? Thanksgiving and praise. No matter your circumstances, give thanks to him and bless his name because there is always a reason to thank God. Doing so will transform you.*
In Psalm 100:5, God is good and faithful. But to truly experience his goodness and faithfulness, you must “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Ps 34:8). So, worship him, trust him, and obey him. You won’t be disappointed.*
Do we only pray to God when we need Him? God is not the last resort or someone we call in an emergency. He is the first and only—the sustainer of our being (Acts 17:28). Without Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). That’s why we talk to Him daily. We don’t approach Him with a list of demands or requests; we approach Him with thanksgivings and praises. We thank Him first for who He is, not what He gives us. Our God is merciful, abundant in loving kindness, and slow to anger (Psalm 103:8). We next praise Him for all He does for us (Romans 8:28)and because He is worthy of all praises (Psalm 135).~
When we approach our Father in heaven in this manner, He welcomes us into His courts and asks us, “What can I do for you today, my child?”~
