Sanctified by The Word of God!

John 17:17
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

Application:

Then Jesus prayed, Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. To be sanctified means to be set apart from the world and society for God’s purposes. This process occurs when you internalize the eternal truth of God’s Word, obey it, and are empowered by the Holy Spirit. Think of the Word like food. You can chew it all day, but unless you swallow it, you gain no health benefits. You internalize God’s Word not merely by hearing or reading it but by trusting and obeying it. Then the work of spiritual transformation begins in your life (see 2 Cor 3:17 18). Through the Bible’s sanctifying work, we live in fellowship with God while on earth and represent Him in everything we say and do.

Saints are not extraordinary, divine people with superpowers, as some religions portray them. We do not pray to saints because prayer is a form of worship. We worship only God (Luke 4:8). Saints, as mentioned above, are people like you and me who choose to obey, honor, and respect God and His Word above all else on earth, and any glory, any credit for the good works performed by saints is ultimately given back to God (1 Chronicles 29:11, Matthew 6).*

Jesus was sending his disciples into the world (17:18)—that is, on a mission. They would not be secluded in a monastery but making their God-glorifying presence known in the culture. He said, I sanctify myself for them, so that they also may be sanctified by the truth (17:19). In other words, Jesus had set himself apart to God’s will so that he might enable his followers to do the same.

Not only did Jesus pray for the eleven disciples in front of him, but also for those who believe in [him] through their word. The disciples and apostles with him that night would proclaim the gospel through their preaching and their Holy Spirit-inspired writings, which would become the New Testament. Therefore, “those who believe in [him] through their word” includes all who have trusted in Christ throughout the ages. This means that Jesus was praying here for you and me.

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
