The Confort of God’s Word

Psalm 119:18
Open my eyes, that I may see
Wondrous things from Your law.

Application:

The Hebrew word used here for wondrous, niphla’oth, is typically linked to God’s powerful acts on behalf of Israel during the exodus (see Exod 7:3). By observing these wonders, the psalmist suggests that God’s people have achieved a higher status because He has provided them with His guidance.~

The psalmist asks God for favor—that God would be generous to him and open [his] eyes to understand from [his] instruction (119:17–18). He seeks comfort amid difficult circumstances because arrogant men have insulted him and spoken against him (119:21–23). Still, he is dedicated to keeping God’s decrees, which he considers his guides (119:24). There is no better source of teaching and advice for life.*

The psalmist prays for revival and strength through God’s word. [His] life is weighed down in the dust, and he feels weary from grief (119:25, 28). The guidance of Scripture, however, helps him resist the lure of sin and the path of deceit (119:29). Therefore, he doesn’t just read God’s commandments—he clings to them (119:31).*

The entire Word of God, the Holy Bible, is a love letter to humanity. Yet, those blinded by the god of this age (2 Corinthians 4:4) only see the negative in the law and the decrees of God. The psalmist asks God to show him His love through His statutes and ordinances.

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
