1 Peter 5:8-9
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
Application:
Peter closes the first letter with a warning: be alert and resist the devil. When you transferred out of Satan’s realm and into Christ’s kingdom, you became a target.*
The devil prowls like a roaring lion looking for food. He seeks to devour us by bringing legal accusations in the spiritual realm against us to destroy the lives of God’s people (Revelation 12:9-11). He wants to keep you from advancing God’s kingdom on earth, and don’t think you can fly under his radar.*
He wants to destroy you. So be firm in the faith. Remember that you can conquer Satan, but only through your faith in and obedience to Jesus Christ (5:8–9). Through Christ, the God of all grace … will himself restore, establish, strengthen, and support you (5:10). All dominion belongs to him (5:11). You need no other security policy.*
Notice this verse says “…like a roaring lion…” A lion intimidates others through its roar, not its bite. The devil only has the power we give him. We grant him authority when we walk in disobedience to God and His Holy Word. If we do not give him that power, his roaring cannot harm us. He is like a shadow with no substance. He accuses us by bringing up the past, which has already been cleansed and forgiven by the blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.^
When we walk in obedience to Jesus Christ, we have authority over the devil by speaking and proclaiming the Word of God, as Jesus demonstrated (Matthew 4). Speak and do the Word, and the devil will flee from you!^

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present.
