Psalm 40:8
I delight to do Your will, O my God,
And Your law is within my heart.”
Application:
In Psalm 40:1–5, David celebrates how God delivered him from trouble in the past. God heard his cry and answered (40:1). Using vivid imagery, David describes how God lifted him from a miry pit and placed his feet on solid ground (40:2). As a result, he praises God with a new song to inspire others to trust in the Lord as well (40:3).
Such trust in God brings happiness (40:4). David’s psalms stem from his deep experiences with God, and he hopes others will have meaningful encounters with Him too. We should remember the wondrous deeds that God has done in our lives so that—like David—we can confidently testify that there are too many to count (40:5).
In Psalm 40:6–8, David affirms that God prefers us to commit our lives to Him rather than just offering sacrifices. He aligns himself with the scroll of God’s Word, which reveals God’s will (40:7). David does not obey God reluctantly; he does so willingly and with joy: “I delight to do your will, my God” (40:8). Many people seek personal guidance directly from the Lord. Yet, they often overlook the guidance available in His revealed Word.
You cannot be led in God’s personal will for your life if you neglect His revealed will in Scripture. Whatever is written in heaven about God’s plans in history for Jesus’s life and for ours is also written on the fabric of our hearts. It becomes real as we submit to God’s will. The author of Hebrews applies these verses to Jesus Christ, who came to fulfill the Father’s purposes (see Heb 10:5–7).

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
