John 1:12-13
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Application:
But to everyone who receives him, he gives the right to become a child of God. Receiving Christ is not like passively getting a letter in your mailbox. Instead, it means welcoming him (based on his substitutionary atonement), like inviting a guest into your home. Those who do so are adopted into God’s family as his children.*
To believe in Jesus’ name is to believe in His person (who He is) and work (what He has done) (1:12). When someone receives and believes in Jesus for the gift of eternal life, they undergo a supernatural birth, receiving spiritual life. They are born … of God (1:13)—what Jesus would call being “born again” (3:3).*
Contrary to most religious beliefs, we are not all children of God. Instead, we are all creations of God until we believe in and commit to the Lord Jesus Christ. God takes slaves (Romans 6:20-23), born in sin (Psalm 51:5), and gives them the right to become heirs of the Kingdom of God (Romans 8:17). This is what is meant by being “born-again” in John 3. Notice how the verse above says “…gave them the right to become…” It does not say we are born into this world as children of God; we have to be born again, by believing in Jesus and through the Holy Spirit of God.

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
