Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
Application:
When children were brought to Jesus so he might bless and pray for them, his disciples rebuked the parents (19:13). But Jesus rebuked the disciples right back: Leave the little children alone. Why? He doesn’t want anyone to stand between him and children. That the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these (19:14) implies you have to be willing to humble yourself like a little child to come to Jesus as your Savior and experience his kingdom rule as Lord. This passage also emphasizes that children are to be viewed as a blessing, not a burden, and therefore should be given spiritual priority.*
The call to welcome and nurture children in faith remains just as important today as it was in biblical times. Parents, educators, and religious leaders are urged to create an environment where children feel safe and appreciated. By encouraging them to explore their spirituality and seek the Lord Jesus Christ, we help foster a sense of belonging within the larger faith community. Jesus’ message in Matthew 19:14 reminds us that every child holds a special place in the kingdom of heaven, and it is our responsibility to guide them with love on their spiritual journey (Proverbs 22:6).
