1 Chronicles 29:11
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness,
The power and the glory,
The victory and the majesty;
For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours;
Yours is the kingdom, O Lord,
And You are exalted as head over all.

Application:

David praised God because he recognized key truths about giving and gratitude that we sing and talk about in church, but don’t always fully grasp. David acknowledged that everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to the Lord in the first place (29:11).

Riches and honor come from Him (29:12). When we give to God, we are merely returning to Him a portion of what He has given us in the first place. David was rightly offering to God the praise that is due to Him as the first and most abundant giver. If we, as Christians, don’t understand this principle of stewardship, we won’t be inclined to give. God has generously provided everything we have or will have. We should possess hearts of generosity and gratitude in response.

When my children were young, there were times they would ask for money to buy me a birthday present. What they didn’t realize was that they needed to bless me. I was still touched by their desire to give me a gift because their hearts were in the right place. However, I wasn’t any better off receiving a present I had paid for. What mattered to me was that my kids wanted to bless me from the heart, filled with love for me.

David understood this principle clearly: Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your own hand (29:14). He also acknowledged that his people were essentially renters, more or less tenant farmers in the land of Israel, which ultimately belonged to God as well (29:15).

Understanding that everything we have is a gift from God serves as the foundation for both generosity and gratitude. Therefore, we should approach not only our giving but also every aspect of life from a kingdom perspective that recognizes that everything we possess, are, or will ever become comes from God’s hand. Similar to the lights on your car’s dashboard that indicate what’s happening under the hood, your willingness to give generously reflects the state of your heart.

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
