God, Our Shield

Psalm 56:4
In God (I will praise His word),
In God I have put my trust;
I will not fear.
What can flesh do to me?

Application:

According to the heading, David wrote this psalm regarding the occasion when the Philistines seized him in Gath when he was fleeing from Saul. David pretended to be crazy to prevent the Philistine king from killing him (see 1 Sam 21:10-15; Ps 3).*

56:1-4 David calls on God to be gracious in light of his adversaries who trample [him] all day (56:1-2). Amid his fears, David utters a prayer that all of God’s children would do well to remember: When I am afraid, I will trust in you … What can mere mortals do to me? (56:3-4).*

He realized the importance of having a divine perspective. When fear consumed him, he compared the size of his enemies to the size of his trustworthy God. And doing that changed the equation. Adopting such a perspective will transform how you face negative circumstances.*

God can do more than we can ever think or imagine (Ephesians 3:20), so do not place limits on God. Jesus promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). With this in mind, when we face trouble, we need to understand that God is right there with us in the midst of it (Psalm 91:14-16). People may plot against us, but the Lord will be our shield if we trust in Him and His promises (Psalm 3:3).

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
