Romans 15:2
Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification.
Application:
Paul continues to contemplate the concept of weakness and strength (the theme of chapter 14) as he begins chapter 15. This time, he provides an example to reinforce his argument. Each of us should strive to please our neighbor (15:2), because even Christ did not seek to please himself (15:3). If Jesus used his strength to bear our weaknesses, how much more should we who are strong … bear the weaknesses of those without strength (15:1)?*
Our patience for others should stem from our understanding of how patient Jesus has been with us.*
(15:1) “We who are strong” refers to believers who confidently trust that they no longer have to adhere to the religious rules they practiced before coming to Christ. Freedom in Christ clears their conscience (see 14:1).^
Paul encourages more than just tolerance when he says, “To bear”; he wants the strong to be sympathetic toward the weak, even willing to restrict their freedom to prevent the weak from acting against their consciences. This presents an opportunity for the strong to demonstrate the love of Christ and the unity of the Spirit. The weak refers to those who are uncertain about what they can or cannot eat.^

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
