Confidence in Prayer

1 John 5:14-15
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Application:

Referring to it as eternal life encompasses not just time but also quality. John urges his readers to aspire to more than mere immortality. Remember: this letter emphasizes experiencing intimate fellowship with God. John desires his readers to encounter a meaningful manifestation of the life of Christ. When our intimacy with Him runs deep, we gain new confidence in prayer (5:14). Show me a person experiencing the life of Christ, and I’ll show you someone who prays with the power and confidence that God will come through (5:15).*

How can we determine that we’re aligned with God and praying according to His will? (5:14). We begin with the Word of God. Pray the Bible with all its promises and commands. We must believe that God will give us what He has promised. Let it be in your heart and on your tongue. God wants His Word to be fulfilled, so pray for it to be realized in your life and the lives of others. Prayer is a toll-free number; the tab is picked up at the other end.*

However, obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ opens this prayer line. Our prayers may be hindered by living in disobedience to God. These are ways our prayers are hindered: Lack of love (Proverbs 21:13), Pride (Proverbs 16:18, Luke 18:9-14), Doubts and Unbelief (Hebrews 11:6, James 1:5-8), Disobedience (1 John 3:21-22, Galatians 5:16-26), Family discord and strife (1 Peter 3:7), Unforgiveness (Matthew 6:12-15, Mark 11:25-26), Lack of Reconciliation (Matthew 5:23-24, Matthew 18:15-16), Unconfessed sins (Psalm 66:18, Isaiah 59:2, John 9:31), Religion and Idolatry (Hosea 5, Ezekiel 14:1-5, Proverbs 1:24-28), Not in God’s will (1 John 5:14).^

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
