Matthew 20:17-19
Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.”
Application:
Jesus predicted his suffering, death, and resurrection for the third time on the third day (20:18–19; see 16:21; 17:22–23). He wanted his disciples to understand this as his mission—why he had come. This would form the basis for their future ministry and message. When Paul later summarized the gospel, this was its essence:*
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,
Jesus predicts His death to show that it was God’s will that He be sacrificed, not man’s. It is God’s good pleasure that He be bruised, grieved, and sacrificed to make His soul an offering for our sin (Isaiah 53:10). When Peter attempted to prevent this from happening, Jesus compared Peter to Satan because he opposed God’s will that Jesus be sacrificed (Matthew 16:21-23).
The question often arises: Who killed Jesus? The Romans? The Jews? The Gentiles? Many answers are given and debated. The Bible’s answer is that God delivered Him and had Jesus sacrificed for our sins (Isaiah 53:10) before the world was created (1 Peter 1:20; Revelation 13:8).

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
