Wages of Sin

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Application:

When we work for a living, our wages allow us to enjoy life and provide for our needs. These wages become a credit due to us from our work.

According to the Word of God, we are all born sinners (Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:23), a sin inherited from Adam’s fall. From the moment we are born, we start to sin and collect wages that are not credited to us but debited. These debts do not result in life and prosperity, but eventually, death, for God will require payment (Ezekiel 18:20).

Whether physical death or spiritual separation from the enjoyment of the eternal life of God is in view—since believers can’t lose their salvation—the payment of sin is always the same.*

Indeed, Christians can lose their joy because sin separates us from fellowship with God. They can also lose out on the will of God. The point is that believers can still choose sin, but when they do, they collect their rightful wages: weakness, sickness, meaninglessness, and death.*

When we trust and obey Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, He takes the wages of sin away from us, we are no longer condemned (Romans 8:1). All that debt that was in us is now His, and it was punished at the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21). We cannot be charged twice for the same offense in heaven’s court. When Jesus cried at the cross, “It Is Finished,” the Greek word used (Tetelestai) is a financial term; Jesus cried, “Paid in Full.” We can now receive the gift of eternal life by grace through faith.

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
