Let us listen to what God says about us, not the lies others whisper when attempting to tear us down!
After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We all had our share of heartbreaks and experiences that destroyed our self-esteem. From a spouse who told us we would never amount to anything or that we were not attractive anymore. Bosses that demean us constantly. Parents insult us and say we cannot do anything right. Our childhoods probably were sprinkled with bullies who constantly abused us verbally, if not also physically.
So, we learn and become set on the voices we hear from our parents, teachers, bosses, friends, and strangers.
But friends, there is a better way! Instead of agreeing with what is said about us, let us study what God says and then affirm what God says and live by it. When the doctor says there is no cure for what you have, do not repeat it, and do not accept this report; instead, say what the Word of God says, “by His stripes, we are healed.”
Below are some examples of the whispers that are common in our age; let us listen to Jesus instead. He is “The Voice of Truth!”
People say you will always be alone!
The Voice of Truth says we are never alone:
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
…there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, Hebrews 12:22
And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17
You hear people say you will never amount to anything!
The Voice of Truth says we are conquerors:
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:35-37
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:56-58
The doctor says you only have about a year to live!
The Voice of Truth says our time is in God’s hands; He decides how long we live!
I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the Lord. Psalm 118:17
Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Psalm 103:2-5
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. James 5:14-15
My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me. Psalm 31:15
People say you are ugly!
The Voice of Truth says:
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 1 Corinthians 15:51-53
God creates beauty, and this fallen world corrupts that beauty with chemicals that destroy human DNA. God is trying to say in His Word that you do not even come close to imagining how beautiful you are. Trust in Him; you will soon see your true self!
People say God cannot help you because of what you have done and all the sins you have committed!
The Voice of Truth says:
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: John 1:12
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18
A voice inside tells you you do not need God; you have everything you need!
The Voice of Truth says:
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:36-38
Without Jesus, we are molded and conformed by all kinds of voices as we grow. You probably have seen this image in cartoons where they paint a devil on one side and an angel on the other. These voices tend to make us go in a way that our Creator did not intend, being tossed around like a wave in the wind (James 1:6.) Many lives have been destroyed or are about to be destroyed because of the voices they pay attention to, and let them through into the hearts.
No matter what torments us today, there is a way. We do not have to live with these lies corrupting our minds! Let us cast our burdens on God because He cares for us.
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:6-7
When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He begins to clean our souls of the lies implanted in us, even from childhood. It takes a new thinking and a renewing process. The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 12:1-2:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
The word in Greek, translated as “conformed,” means “been shaped into” like you shape a mold, for example, cookie cutters. Since birth, our minds are shaped (conformed) to the world system of doing things before we come to Jesus Christ; now, by the power of the Holy Spirit, it must be renewed IN Christ.
The will of God is to transform us into the image of His Son.
“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29
As you read the Word of God, the Word also reads and talks to you. It is a process that takes place in your spirit and is enabled by the Holy Spirit. Trust the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth and erase lies implanted in you.
“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” Romans 8:15-16
Abba, Father,
Teach me to pay attention to your whisper in my spirit. Erase from my mind lies about me that were implanted and, in its place, engrave your truth, wisdom, grace, and love. Teach me to follow your Way, not the way of the world. Teach me to speak Your Word, to claim Your victory in my life. I will trust the Holy Spirit as He talks to my spirit, and I will listen to the Word of Truth.
In Jesus’ name!
Amen!
