Halloween, Fun or Demonic Adultery?

by Ricardo

Is it okay for Christians to celebrate Halloween?
Is it just fun?

Welcome to my Blog!
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Is it ok for us to be unfaithful to God just to have a moment of fun and celebrate evil? You may disagree on what evil is, but know this: evil is anything contrary to God and His Holiness!

Observation (What the Word of God Says?)

Halloween is a pagan holiday celebrated as fun by celebrating death, darkness, evil, terror, lies, masks, and hiding one’s true self. I have done my homework on the origins of this holiday, and I encourage the reader to do some research and determine for themselves if it is evil.

Click this link for an article explaining the origins of this pagan festival. This blog does not aim to teach you about the origin and dangers of dealing with the occult. I could write a book about this subject.

This blog aims to point you to Jesus Christ and see what He and the Holy Spirit of God say about celebrating evil, when disguised as good. Our enemy, the devil, a liar from the beginning, likes to blur the line between evil and good.

As adults, we have fun by dressing as something we are not. As children, we throw in candy so it can become attractive. The spiritual enemies of God love to entice the children to change a generation.

Let’s consult the Word of God and see if the Holy Spirit can guide us into the truth of God’s Word and how we can serve Him in Spirit and Truth. Consider a few verses that point us to how we should behave as a child of God.

A jealous God

“(for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),”
Exodus 34:14

Two masters?

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other…”
Matthew 6:24

Be seperate!

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”

Therefore

“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
2 Corinthians 6:14-17

Interpretation (What does it mean?)

A Jealous God

“(for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),”
Exodus 34:14

Christianity is not a religion; it is a relationship with our loving Creator. We are considered the Bride of Christ. Religions tend to create rules by men to please God. In Christianity, God reaches down to humans to save them by grace, by the blood of Christ shed at the cross. Let us escape religions that worship God only on Sundays, and the rest of the week is for whatever comes, even to celebrate evil. God is a jealous God, and even His name is jealous as you read the above scripture. God wants our hearts every day of the week, not just on Sundays, Easter, or Christmas time.

As a husband, I also get jealous of my wife if I see another man getting too close or trying to seduce her. Now, consider if she requests that I let her date another man once a year, just for one night. Of course, even one night of infidelity will break our relationship for good, and our communion, our fellowship, as a couple will be destroyed.

Consider how God feels then if His bride wants to fool around?
Should we want to fool around and celebrate evil?

Two Masters?

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other…”
Matthew 6:24

When God calls us to be Christians, Jesus becomes our Master. We become bond-servants to the Lord Jesus Christ. He cannot be our Savior if He is not our Master. A symbolic death happens at baptism when we are dipped into the water. As we are raised out of the water, we are raised to a new life, just as Christ resurrected to give us that new life. If Jesus is our Master, the old ways are behind us; we are a new creation. We now follow Jesus’ orders, ways, truth, and commands. Why should we feel compelled to serve another master and celebrate evil, even temporarily? We are commanded not to give the devil an inch:

“nor give place to the devil.”
Ephesians 4:27

Do not be yoked with unbelievers. This verse is applied mainly to couples but also includes friends and business partnerships. If a friend is not a Christian, we must separate from such a friend IF the relationship causes us to stumble, celebrate evil, and dishonor God and His Word. Jesus said our reward will be great if we lose relationships because of Him (Mark 10:29-30).

What relationship has righteousness with lawlessness? We are either one or the other, according to God’s Word. We cannot have the righteousness of Christ with us today and tomorrow; we set it aside like a garment and celebrate evil. It does not work like that.

What communion has light with darkness? According to what our Lord claimed, we are supposed to be the world’s light (Matthew 5:14). How can sinners be saved if we, the light of the world, do not shine the light upon the darkness.

And what accord has Christ with Belial? Belial here represents the devil. If Christ is our Master, did He make an accord with the devil so we can enjoy Halloween and celebrate evil? Definitively not! So if Christ is in us (if we are Born-Again Christians, He is), do we tell Christ to leave us while we invite Belial in?

What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As born-again Christians, we are the temple of God. If we are God’s, the Spirit of Christ lives inside us and teaches us right from wrong. If we do not have Christ’s Spirit in us, then we are not His; we have been deceived, which is why we will celebrate evil.

“But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”
Romans 8:9

Come out from among them! The Word of God now commands us to leave any religion that looks the other way on sin, even when dealing with the occult or even getting close to it. God commands not to touch (handle) unclean stuff. Some religions have a form of godliness; they talk about holiness, but do members practice it?

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
2 Timothy 3:1-5

Application (What does it mean to me?)

Is it okay for Christians to celebrate Halloween?

The answer is a resounding NO!

When we profess to be Christians and are friends with the darkness, even briefly, then we must examine ourselves.

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”
2 Corinthians 13:5

If Jesus Christ is in us, we will not have communion with darkness. If we are disqualified, Jesus will not be in us; we will agree and enjoy the darkness. Our prayers will not be effective if we honor the dark, even for one day.

I pray that if just one reader repents, stops worshiping the darkness, and turns to the Word of God for guidance, writing this blog will not have been in vain.
