Eternal Life In Jesus Christ

1 John 5:12
He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Application:

In 1 John 5:9–12 A basic principle of God’s Word is that a “matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses” (2 Cor 13:1; see Deut 19:15). The tragic truth is that despite the threefold testimony God has provided (5:6–8), too many believe man rather than God. That’s equivalent to calling God a liar (5:10). However, God’s testimony is greater—he’s the only one who needs no margin of error (5:9).

What does God want you to believe? God has given us eternal life (5:11). In John’s Gospel, Jesus defined eternal life this way: “that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent—Jesus Christ” (John 17:3). Eternal life is the knowledge of God. You receive this at the moment of salvation, but that’s only the beginning. You must grow in your knowledge and understanding, as sure as an infant must progress toward childhood. God wants us to grow in our knowledge of him—he wants us to deepen in our experience of eternal life. To do that, you must have intimacy with his Son, because this life is in his Son. The one who has the Son has life (5:11–12).

How important is assurance of salvation? John wants those who have trusted in the Son of God for salvation from sin to know that [they] have eternal life. Assurance is part of the essence of saving faith. If eternal life can be lost, it can’t be eternal. God wants you to know that you have eternal life—not based on your fluctuating faith—but based on the object of your faith, Jesus.

When God inspires me, I write blogs. Consider this writing as a Bible study. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures to determine whether what I write is so. Always consult with your church ministers about biblical matters. I am also not a professional writer, so some grammar or spelling errors may be present. I try my best to write as efficiently as possible. Your brother in Christ, Ricardo
