James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Application:

We need to conduct ourselves as if we are continually in the presence of Him, who alone is worthy of exaltation (Revelation 4:11). Recognizing His presence in all our ways is the greatest incentive to humility. Learning to be humble before God means respecting Him and saying, “I fully trust You!” Proverbs 16:18 states that pride goes before destruction. Our pride says, “I know better than God.” 

To grow upwards, a tree must strike its roots deep downwards. Similarly, to be exalted, man must have a mind deeply rooted in humility. Our Lord Jesus Christ stated, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last and the servant of all.” Mark 9:35. 

Peter agrees with James in 1 Peter 5:6, which states, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” The quotation marks have been added. 

King David trusted God and remained humble before the Lord, and God granted him victory over his enemies. David declared in Psalm 3:3,

“But You, O Lord, are a shield for me,
My glory and the One who lifts up my head.”

The quotation marks have been added.
